Well, this will be the last dispatch from the ship. And Tee, this one is for you! Its clear and cold, and we are tied up at the Manhattan piers! Bummer! But once we get home, we can start to plan the next adventure. But I am getting ahead of myself.
By the way, here is the morning view (and yes, that's NJ in the background! Last night, we had a great time. The show was quite good -- the four main singers did Broadway tunes. We all met in the bar, had drinks, and toasted to pretty much anything we could think of. Adam & Chris, the art auctioneers, joined us for a drink, too.
Yesterday was our tablemate Carolyn's birthday - her 40th. Now, not to miss any excuse for a drink or mayhem, Gayle and Linda were hard at work, collecting streamers and balloons, writing poems (a new talent we discovered in Gayle), and a range of gag gifts. It was great. Carolyn's chair was totally decorated, she loved her gifts, and the gang sang Happy Birthday while the staff gave us a really good birthday cake. Carolyn was blown away! Here was the scene: Now, those of you who have known me for a while know that I have been trying to get some really good pictures of the Statue of Liberty in the morning as we transit back into NYC. Unfortunately, every time we have come in, it was rainy, dreary, lousy, so I never got the shots I wanted. This trip, I figured the skys were supposed to be clear and cold, so I was all set! We were supposed to get into the piers at 7am, so I was going to get up at 5:30am, take a shower, and shoot the transit form 6am to 7am. Well, you know how the best laid plans go!
I got up at 5:30am, brushed my teeth, and then checked the view out the stateroom. Imagine my shock as I saw the Verazano Narrows Bridge fading off into the distance! So, I threw on some clothes, and ran up to the perch I had picked out on Deck 9. We were just coming up on the Statue, but it was DARK!!! We were running too far ahead of schedule! Damn! But I shot anyway (and froze!). Here are the results: Then, we tied up at the piers, I grabbed a shower, and then I wrote this dispatch. Time is short, so I will sign off now. Tee, we'll see you later! I'll write a cloing entry later, and give you links to some of the people and places we visited, in case you ever want to trace our footsteps. It really was a great trip!!! Keep Smiling!!!
