For those of you who read this travelogue and let me know what you thought of it, thank you for your kind words, and for sticking with it. I had a great time writing about what we were doing, and I am glad you got a bit of pleasure from "coming along." Even both of my parents approved, and how often is it that you do something like that? We made some great friends on this trip. Congratulations again to Graham and Geraldine on their 25th Anniversary (and British Air can't compete with the staff of the Noordam! Next time you'll just have to take a repositioning cruise to come over and get back!) and to Carolyn on the celebration of her 29th birthday (for the 11th time! How'd bowling go on Sunday?). Val, one of these days we'll get 2 sailboats together, and sort out that whole speed thing, and Vic, you still owe me a drink - although I would happily buy next time our paths cross. Mark, well, what can I say? Gabrielle and Karla, you two are scary women - and we love that about you! Nice pic of Carol Debbie and I in PR, Karla! And Tommy, we're coming back for the other half of that baracuda, don't you worry! Ah, yes, I do love to cruise! The Noordam, if you haven't figured it out by now, is a fabulous ship. Very elegant and understated. The rooms are great, balconies toomy, and the staff is unbelievable. Food was good - not quite the level I thought it would be at, but you certainly didn't starve! And the service in the diningroom was passable, again, nothing to write home about, but again, you didn't starve, and we always made it to the show on time. They will get that worked out as time goes on. Overall, I would have no problem booking another cruise on the Noordam, and it makes me wonder about some of their other ships. One day, we shall have to check them out!
Some people were asking about the camera gear I brought on this trip because they liked the pictures found in the blog. Here is what I brought with me:
Obviously, we had a pretty good time at the different islands we visited, and with the different excursions we took. None of these excursions were through the Noordam or Holland America. While I would highly recommend you take she ship's offerings with excursions the first time you visit an island or the first time you cruise, there are some great deals and experiences to be had if you book things on your own. For the adventurous among you, here are some links to the people whose services we used.
Well, that about does it for this trip. It was a wonderful time. If you might be interested in joining us for our next adventure on the high seas, let me know. We are talking about trying to get a bigger group next time, so we can do some better things on the islands. Besides, we need people we can throw over the side when things get a little crazy! Until next time, I wish you fair seas and calm winds. Remember, if we weren't all crazy, we would go insane! Keep Smiling!!!
