I'm Molting!!!!!! Okay, I started peeling a bit a day or so ago (forgot to mention it), but I just happened to see myself in the mirror and saw my ears molting. Could be worse, I guess. Okay, we are tied up at the pier in sunny Ft Lauderdale. Same pier we started at 10 days ago. The temperature is a balmy 58F - what happened to my upper 70s start to the day? But at least the sun is out.
We were the first ship into port this morning, with at least two others coming in after us. It is always a slow quiet trip in thru the channel here in Port Everglades. Kind of a fitting end to this phase of the adventure, since it is not over yet! Here is what it looked like pulling in this morning.
And as much as one always looks forward, when you are pulling into port, you just can't help but look back seaward. Here is the view looking east with the new day just starting to alight the horizon. So, let's talk about last night! Well, we got changed for dinner, and earlier in the day, my mother went and talked to the people who book future cruises right here on the ship (strike while the iron is hot - and those people were getting slammed yesterday!). So, we looked up the trip my mother was looking at, along with a couple others on the internet - just to have an idea of pricing - and thought maybe we would talk to them before dinner if it the line wasn't too long. We got there, and there was no one there! So, we got a price - a decent price - quote for a Dec 6th sailing. Then we went to go try out the Molecular Bar - something we had been meaning to do, but hadn't gotten around to. The Molecular Bar is supposed to be unique in that they use chemistry of some sort to make drinks. In reality, it is just a bar where they have a little liquid nitrogen in a crafe (one of the ones they use to serve coffee) that they pour onto the drink, and now the drink smokes as the nitrogen boils off. Pretty, but big deal! And they charge a pretty penney for the priviledge. Big disappointment. We met my mother at the bar, showed her the price we had gotten, and then went to dinner. Mike & Deb decided to skip dinner in the diningroom for the buffet upstairs, and were meeting us at the show. Dinner was nice, and we talked about the cruise, and the possibility of doing another, then said our good-byes to Cookson & his assistant (and tipped them pretty good - they have been great), before heading back to the next cruise office to book our cruise! Booking the cruise was pretty easy, just took a bit of time, because the guy wasn't really all that good at it - or he was so totally wiped from doing the same thing for the last few days. The show was a good one, having snippets of all the shows we had seen over the past 10 days. They even had a video show of some of the highlights of our trip. One quick clip in the video was of someone bowling on the ship! I didn't know we had a bowling alley here! Something we are going to have to explore on the next cruise!
After the show, we said our good-byes to Mike & Deb (I even told them the trick of catching the airport car rental bus so they didn't have to take a cab), and headed back up to the room. If you ever wondered what it was like to see a cruise ship at sea, here is one that was going our way (we were running faster, though) off the port beam. It was still early, so we went down to the casino to break a bill, and let Carol play a little. We donated a $10 or $20 to the cause, but it was amazing how many people were there for their last hurrah! Trying to hit it big to buy their next cruise, I'd wager! Then it was time to crash, lulled by the rocking motion of the ship. It was a great cruise! We are going to finish packing things up (now that Carol is out of the shower), get some breakfast, and hit the road, back to the Villages! I'll see you when we get up there!
Keep Smiling!!!
