Welcome to the Chronicles of

~ the St John Adventures ~
Epilogue

Sitting on My Deck, Drinking a Painkiller, Wondering "Where the Hell is My Ocean View...?"

Well, the adventure is obviously over. I will say, however, that driving on smooth paved roads where you can see more than 50 yards (at the same altitude), and you can safely drive over 30mph is a pretty easy thing to get back to. It is also nice to shop in a mega-mart that has pretty much everything, and going to a restaurant is a far less dicey proposition (forget about a reasonable price!). Water pressure, and drinkable water from a tap are also welcome signs of being home!

But that does come at a price - grand views, crystal waters, geckos everywhere, and knowing that you can snorkel and see abundant fish in about 100 places within 10 miles of wherever you are standing. It is easy to get lost in paradise, and while you are there, the costs really are not that big of a deal - in fact, they are part of what makes it interesting and worthwhile. If it were just like home, then it would be - well, just like home.

Possibly one day it will be. In the meantime, it is treasured memories, and a goal to shoot for. I really could live there, given the right circumstances. I guess time will tell.

This trip was full of firsts for me. First time, as an adult, living in the Caribbean for any length of time, first time seeing baracuda (over and over again! I love it!), spotted rays in the wild, cuttle fish and octopi. It was a grand adventure! It was the sort of adventure that makes you want to plan your next trip the moment you get home.

Of course, once we got home, we had some chores to take care of - the yard desperately needed mowing, things needed washing, supplies needed purchasing (especially the requirements for the Painkiller! Forgot the nutmeg, though - manana).

It is good that we came home Friday - even if we got thru the door at a little after 1am. We still have tomorrow to relax before we need to engage the world. I started going thru my email, only to find out that I have a 2 part shoot already set up for Tuesday morning (thank God they were smart enough to not do it Monday!). I guess I will get the details Monday!

Kelly across the street told me that she thought I would be darker than I am - I guess that SPF-50 stuff works. Its not like you want to get a good burn in the beginning of a trip like ours - great way to ruin snorkeling trips! But the farmer's tan thing on my arm is non-exsistent, although I have a pretty good tan line under my watch!

Next time, we bring more hamburgers, more cheese, and more friends (if we can get you guys to come along!)! More boating (thinking of a split trip - part in a villa, part on a boat - maybe even take a class to learn to sail!), different beaches (we really only saw the north shore - and there are at least 2 others with great snorkeling!), and less shopping (yeah, yeah, yeah...!)! Oh, and bring the real camera, too, since there are just some magical places and things to shoot! And bring less clothing - I didn'r use half the shorts I brought, 3/4 the socks, and most of the polo shirts (although I think I would bring a few anyway, just in case).

But in the final analysis, I can't think of much I would change. We lucked into a great place, met some really nice people, and had a fabulous time. But then, in paradise, how can you miss?

The next adventure is in December, and there is still room for other hearty souls to join us! Just look for the Celebrity Equinox leaving Dec 6th! Don't ever say you weren't invited!

Til next time....

Keep Smiling!!!
